Our story begins in 1974, when Taunton Vale Hockey Club and Taunton Cricket Club joined forces to form a thriving sports and social hub in Taunton. What started as a shared vision has grown into one of Somerset’s most significant multi-sport venues.
After the sale of the original Moorfields ground on Lisieux Way in the late 1990s, the club moved to its current home on Gipsy Lane. The new site was officially opened in 2001 by Somerset County Cricket Club legend Marcus Trescothick.
What began with one floodlit AstroTurf and two cricket pitches has grown into a thriving multi-sport complex featuring two pavilions, astroturf cricket nets, a 7-a-side 3G pitch, netball/tennis courts and a sports hall.
In 2014, major grant support enabled us to switch to full LED floodlighting – making us the first club in the UK to achieve this and setting a new standard for sustainability in community sport.
In recent years, we have also enjoyed a valued partnership with Somerset County Cricket Club. The site is regularly used for training by both the Men’s and Women’s squads and frequently hosts Men’s 2nd XI fixtures, County Age Group matches and occasional Women’s fixtures – further cementing Taunton Vale’s place at the heart of cricket in the county.
